This short video provides an overview of the acquisition rule making process, specific to the Department of Defense. The process often
begins with new statutory language, such as an annual National Defense
Authorization Act, better known as NDAA. While statutes provide the basis and context for many acquisition regulations, there are also other authoritative sources that shape regulations, such as recent court cases, inspection and audit reports, and input from industry. Within DoD, regardless of the driving force, the acquisition rulemaking process is orchestrated by the Defense Acquisition Regulations (DAR) Council who is responsible for developing and maintaining acquisition rules and guidance in support of DoD's acquisition of goods and services to support the Warfighter.
