On September 2, 2020, the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment launched "Back-to-Basics" initiative to bring the implementation of Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act of 1990 into the 21st century. After several decades of increased workforce mandates, getting "Back to Basics" means a refocus of our resources on the Defense Acquisition Workforce who develop, acquire, and sustain operational capability. Acquisition professionals in the Program Management Functional Area serve in a wide range of Program Executive Office and other support positions to accomplish objectives for the development, production, deployment, and sustainment of systems to meet the warfighter's needs.
