Within the DoD, strategy gets turned into action at the
program level. Like many programs in the Department, F-35 Joint Program Office
is transforming to a digital engineering approach. As a part of the F-35 initiatives to embrace
digital engineering, the JPO conducts model-driven systems engineering
technical reviews (SETR). Starting from the base principles of a systems
engineering review, the program office is incorporating the use of digital
engineering tools into a cohesive strategy to increase engineering rigor,
decrease the administrative burdens, and improve technical outcomes. This discussion will show how F-35 is using
models to generate artifacts as a part of the SETR process, running the
technical review out of models, using interconnected tools to evaluate
technical health in the lead up to the review, and using models as the enduring
source of truth.
