This series explores the importance of putting human-centered design in the Front-End-Analysis. Episodes include lectures on the aspects of Front-End-Analysis for both the Requirements community and program managers and a panel discussion on Human-Centered Design from several perspectives.
Assessments occur at different stages of the acquisition life cycle. The initial assessment is usually referred to as a front-end analysis (FEA) and often involves an analysis of alternatives (AoA) that are available for filling a particular demand. However, it should also include a baseline of the current system, technology, equipment, training, or manpower and a benchmark of minimum capabilities needed to accomplish the goal. Toward baselining and benchmarking, accurate and effective assessment is an important piece of the human factors process for upfront requirements and design especially where humans are involved (in-the-loop, on-the-loop). However, assessment is not as straightforward as it seems. First, the end-user or goal must be considered. Then, there is the determination of the assessment method to use, which includes the identification and selection of measures to capture the thing that is aimed to be evaluated. Finally, the results need to be understandable and actionable to inform requirements and decision makers. These topics will be addressed in the form of a lecture and panel discussion.
