I was first introduced to the concept of "Weak Ties" by Dr. Meg Jay. Interesting to hear it in the context of learning. Thank you for that connection.

Yes, I first learned about the weak ties / strong ties thing about ten years ago in a book from Harvard Business Publishing called ENTERPRISE 2.0 by Andrew McAfee.

I like the idea of sending push notifications (text messages, here) as microlearning.

It's certainly something to experiment with and see if it doesn't become spammy. I think it is useful when the user knows it's a finite set of followups with a purpose.
