The concept of a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) has
become more and more popular across DoD over the past two decades. By using a
MOSA, DoD programs avoid some of the Department greatest challenges and reap
additional benefits. For these reasons, Congress has repeatedly emphasized MOSA
in statute. Most recently, Congress mandated the establishment of repositories
for Modular System Interfaces (MSI) and directed an update to policy in order
to further the Department’s implementation of MOSA.
In response the Congressional direction to establish MSI
repositories, the OSD Intellectual Property (IP) Cadre has led a joint working
group to stand up these repositories. This webinar will discuss the development
our group has gone through, current status of where we are now, and our
intended future state. As part of the process, the Services conducted data
calls to gather information on existing Standards, Architectures, and
interfaces. Based on the information collected, our group will be focusing
future effort to sort between unique and shared/common interfaces and modules.
Facilitation of MSIs and adoption of common interfaces are key enablers for the
Department to successfully design, acquire, and sustain modular open systems.
