Each year, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reviews selected DOD acquisition programs and efforts, including the characteristics and performance of DOD’s most expensive weapon system acquisition programs. GAO’s most recent report—its 22nd annual assessment—found that while DOD plans to invest more than $2 trillion to develop and acquire its costliest weapon programs, it continues to struggle with delivering innovative technologies quickly.
Join us as we focus on GAO’s observations across DOD’s weapon system portfolio, including cost and schedule performance for future major weapon acquisition programs, major defense acquisition programs, and middle tier of acquisition programs. GAO will also discuss the extent to which programs followed new leading product development practices and modern software and cybersecurity practices, and challenges reported by DOD with its software acquisition workforce.
The GAO provides Congress and federal agencies with fact-based, non-partisan information that can improve government operations and save taxpayers billions of dollars.
